There are basically two main reasons to write articles and they are:

1. To generate traffic for your website

2. To make money directly from the article

If you're writing articles to generate traffic to your website then you will write an article related to the subject of your website. Then at the end of the article you will put a link to your website.

If you're writing articles to make money directly from them you will most likely be writing a review of a product or writing an article telling people about a product that does something they want.

An example of this would be an article with a title "How To Stop A Dog From Chewing Shoes." Anyone reading an article on that subject obviously wants to stop their dog from chewing shoes so you would include an affiliate link to a product that stops a dog chewing shoes. At this point you're probably wondering where do you submit your articles? Well this depends on what method you're using as different article directories have different rules with regards to the kinds of links you can have in your articles.

So now you're probably wondering, how do you get people to read your articles? A lot of it depends on the title of your article. When you write your article you will be asked what the title is.

Think of search terms people will use on Google to find your article. Let's go back to the example of "How To Stop A Dog From Chewing Shoes."

Anyone typing in that search term knows what they're looking for so if this was the title of your article you would have a good chance of ranking well.

Obviously you need to be realistic about what your article can and cannot rank for in the search engines. For example it will never rank for "Debt consolidation" without doing a lot of SEO work on it.
